Pretty much on a daily basis I make smoothies from whatever I have at home, taking care to use enough proteins and heart healthy fats in the form of nuts, seeds, flaxseed oil, avocado as well as healthy carbohydrates in the form of berries, fruit and for the green smoothies also veggies. To most of them I also add some “superfood powders” like chlorella, spirulina, acai, maca, rosehip and/ or some cacao nibs. Plus some protein powder sourced from either rice, soy, pea or hemp.
And to be honest most of my mixes look and taste like crap.
But like with everything in life, if you don´t practice and keep trying things out you´ll never get there or even anywhere .
So, to my surprise, there was one which was actually good a few days ago!
There is nothing in the whole world that can make me miss my weekly Trojan Workout sessions I follow at Trainingscentrum Helena in Haarlem, and I knew I had a crazy busy day ahead of me where I first had to go there for a morning class, then bike home to shower and change, quickly walk the dogs, then bike back to TCH to see a nutritional consult customer there, after that bike to the next place to see the next nutritional customers and then it would be 14.30 and time to walk the dogs before a very late lunch.
So what could sustain me after my scrambled eggs and berry breakfast in between all this biking back and forth?
Well, this smoothie could!
And why do I call it “Jonas´ Post Squat Smoothie”?
Well, because it is.
We had our asses kicked, as usual, in the Trojan Workout by the founder of this excellent concept Martijn , with an excruciating two handed kettlebell squat among other killing but fun parts. What totally wiped us out though was this squat, and what made us smile from ear to ear once we were done was also this squat.
And Jonas was brave enough to try one of my smoothies afterwards, maybe with a sense of “who cares, we are dead anyway right 🙂 ”? So, judge by the surprise when we both said “hey, it actually tastes good!”

And why not! It might take years before I manage to swish together another one that tastes good as well as does good :-).
2 dl blueberries
1 tbspn flaxseed oil
I tspn maca powder
2 tspns hemp protein powder
3,5 dl soy milk (you can use any other milk too).
Put it all in the blender, swish and go!
And don´t forget to do your kettlebell squats before you enjoy the smoothie :-)!
